My Wife was away for the weekend, so there I was, playing Mr. Mom for my 11 year old Uber-Picky-Eater Son -- the kid that doesn't eat hamburgers, but will down an adult portion calamari appetizer! Well, we were driving in North Miami and had agreed to disagree about where to heal our hunger pangs; no pasta or pizza for him, no sushi for me. And we both wanted something new and different, which would be quite possible in an area of town quite far from our 'hood. So we resorted to asking Siri for suggestions, and Siri, much to our surprise, came up with a great recommendation! Oishi is located in a strip mall, so give yourself time to find it. We turned into the wrong mall, and ended up at a Costco a few blocks away. Then give yourself time to park; there are several restaurants at this mall, so the lots were pretty full. As we entered, we found the restaurant itself was several notches above the usual strip mall decoration, more leaning towards the elegant and understated than the kitschy. Also, at least on the night we visited (but I've no doubt this is their standard look), the service staff -- all women -- were dressed in very elegant and appealing Thai dress. But we didn't come for the decor or the dress; hunger pangs, like I mentioned. And those were soon satisfied. I cheated, and had a sushi appetizer. Otoro, salmon and uni, fantastic, fresh and delicious. My son had edamame. The tom kha kai was also amazingly good, the chicken, coconut milk, lemongrass, spice, all done just right (at least to my taste). Some of the best I've had. For the main dish, Mr. Picky Eater decided to go with a full-on portion of chicken satay, which he loves, and I went with a more traditional chicken in ginger sauce. My son was also saving some room for his favorite dessert, Thai donuts. What else can I recommend? The service was quite good, friendly and very professional. We didn't wait long, although everything was cooked to order. The portions were large enough to gratify and satia
